We all recognize that as a Muslim our life's objective is to attain Allah (swt) ridha, or pleasure.  To attain Allah's pleasure we must have 'ilm, or knowledge of His laws, and then we must do amaal, or practice on His laws.

So How Do We Learn More About Islam? 

Well, if you desire to become a doctor you must attend medical school and learn medical science under medical professors. If you desire  to become a lawyer, you attend law school and learn the legal profession from law professors. Of course, one may not have the time to learn in such great detail. So when we have medical or legal problems, we obtain medical or legal advice from a doctor or a lawyer. Hence, whatever field a person is interested in learning, he/she must learn from a teacher who is an expert in that field. Thus, when we wish to learn about Islam, we must seek the guidance of the experts in the field of Islam, the Ulama (scholars of Islam). It is by reading the books, listening to the lectures, attending the classes, and asking questions from the authentic and reliable Ulama, that we gain Islamic knowledge. One such Alim of Deen who we may learn from in the New York area is Mufti Muneer Akhoon.

Mufti Muneer is a well-known scholar from Karachi, Pakistan who has studied under some of the top ulama of our era like Hadzrat Maulana Yusuf Ludhyanvi Shaheed, Mufti Nizamud-deen Shamzi, Justice Mufti Taqi Usmani, Maulana Sarfraz Khan Safdar, and many other illustrious ulama.

Alhumdulillah, many people have been deeply effected by his heart moving and intellectual style.

Mufti Muneer is presently the Director of Religious Affairs at Westchester Muslim Center in Mt. Vernon, New York.

- PhD in Explanation of Qur'an (Takhassus Fittaafseer), Jamia Nusrat-ul-Uloom, Gujranwala. Taught by Hadzrat Maulana Sarfaraz Khan Safdar.
